How many of you enjoy cleaning your bathrooms? While we all love a sparkling clean bathroom, very few of us enjoy the process of cleaning. So why not make life simpler by creating a bathroom design that is less cluttered and easier to clean. Here are a few guidelines to follow or visit our design gallery for more bathroom ideas.
Get rid of grout lines: One area in your bathroom most likely to accumulate dirt, grime, and mildew are the grout lines between your tiles. This can also be the most difficult area to clean properly, so one option is to simplify your bathroom design by eliminating or minimizing the grout lines. You can accomplish this in a bathroom renovation by selecting larger size tiles, because the larger the tiles the fewer the grout lines required.
Another option is to pick solid surfaces such as seamless stone, glass or marble, particularly for your countertop or backsplash. These surfaces are non-porous, resist bacteria and mold, and many are resistant to stains. If you really want smaller tiles or a mosaic pattern in your bathroom design, limit this to one part of the bathroom that will not require as much cleaning. Any painted surfaces in your bathroom design should use paints intended for bathrooms that are mildew resistant and easily wiped clean.
Simplify your shower: Showers are a haven for dirt, soap scum and more, so make your bathroom remodeling project work for you by incorporating a shower that is less likely to trap dirt and easier to clean. One possibility is an open shower design or even a wet room, eliminating the need to clean glass or a shower frame. If you prefer to have a glass enclosure or door then go for a frameless shower so there is no frame to collect grime and you only have a solid piece of glass to clean. With a special coating on the glass to help repel water and soap scum, your cleaning routine may be limited to a spritz of your favorite cleaner and a squeegee to wipe the glass! Add a handheld shower head to your bathroom design and you can easily hose everything down to clean the rest of your shower.
Clear the floor: Is there anything worse than crawling around your bathroom floor trying to clean in difficult to reach areas around your bathroom fixtures? Dirt, hair, and dust tend to collect in hard to reach places and make it difficult to properly clean the floor. Wall mounted bathroom fixtures and a wall mounted vanity make it much simpler to clean your entire bathroom floor. If you do not want to incorporate a wall mounted toilet into your bathroom renovation, consider a skirted toilet with smooth sides as it minimizes the places that can catch dust and dirt.
Clean up the clutter: Before you can clean you have to clear up the mess, and any room is much more difficult to clean when it is cluttered. You can remove this step by incorporating purpose built storage into your bathroom design, like the bathroom picture above. Make sure your vanity storage has a place for everything you require in the bathroom including electrical items and you will breeze through your cleaning routine more quickly.
