New Year, New Kitchen and Bath Design Trends

Every year, designers announce new trends in fashion, home design, baby names, or almost anything. While fashion trends may only be around for a year or two, these kitchen and bathroom trends will add style, comfort, and value to your home for years to come. Keep them in mind while planning a kitchen or bathroom remodel in 2018:

Colors

White will always be a classic choice for kitchen design, but bolder hues are expected to become increasingly popular in 2018. Expect to see gray, blue, and plum tones grace the kitchen or bathroom walls and cabinets. Earthly neutrals colors such as camel, rust, and tobacco will add a bold statement if you’d prefer to avoid brighter colors.

Kitchen Cabinets

To add warmth to your kitchen, use warm wood tones, like mahogany, for the cabinetry; if you’re going for a more modern look, consider two-toned cabinets, which add character and depth.

Countertops

Say goodbye to granite countertops, quartz is here to stay. It is extremely resilient, anti-microbial, and easier to maintain than granite. Also, quartz comes in a variety of colors, and thanks to modern technology, it can be manufactured to look like natural stone.

Concrete is a common building material, but get ready to see it in unique forms like countertops, sinks, and furniture.

Sinks

White sinks and appliances will become a thing of the past as dark-hued sinks made of copper, concrete, stone and granite make their appearance. Trough and bucket sinks are ideal for kids’ bathrooms, laundry rooms, and craft rooms. They also complement the farmhouse style kitchen designs.

Backsplashes

Perhaps we can thank Joanna Gaines for shiplap’s increasing trendiness. Shiplap and millwork are excellent choices if you want to add a bit of character or create a rustic atmosphere in your home.

Looking for a backsplash that is more creative or modern? Do you remember textured wall paper that was in almost every room of your house growing up? It’s baaaack! (Sort of.) New tile has recently been manufactured to resemble fabric, wood, and wallpaper. It will be both easy to clean and aesthetically pleasing!

Fixtures & Accent Pieces

Chrome has been king for a long time, but brass, gold, and rose gold fixtures are moving in.

Light up your kitchen with vintage lights. They will make a lasting statement.

Don’t use cookie cutter knobs on your doors and cabinets. Add something with a bit more personality, like oversized, elongated or colored knobs.

Smart Features

Technology has entered the world in full force. Why should your home be any different? From outlets with USB chargers to motion sensor faucets and smart phone- / tablet-controlled lighting to a digital shower that will ensure the shower stays at the preferred temperature – you can create a kitchen or bathroom design as smart as you want it to be!
