We're all trying to make the most out of the space that we have to work with. This becomes especially true when you consider that American homes are getting smaller and smaller. The average size of lots sold is at around 8,428 sq. ft, which is the smallest it has ever been in decades.

Now as we've already shown in our article on how to create space in a small kitchen, there are quite a few things you can do to maximize this area. However, seeing that there are so many ways to go about this it's understandable that we missed a few. If you want to know more about this, read on for some more space saving ideas for small kitchens!

Utilize Wall Space

Have you ever looked at your kitchen walls and thought about how bare they are? And sure you could hang up some trinkets to make the walls look more visually pleasing but this in no way helps your space issue. However, what will help is using all that wall space as an added storage component.

One simple way to do this is by installing some wall hooks where you can hang your kitchen tools on. One downside to this is it may disrupt the overall look of your kitchen as it can look rather bulky. An easy way to get around this problem is through the use of a magnetic rack strip that'll hold your metal kitchen tools in place. However, one downside to using a magnet is that it can only hold metal tools in place so your wooden spoons and rubber spatulas will have to go somewhere else. Keep these things in mind before choosing which route to go, as the better option between the two will wholly depend on the current situation of your kitchen.

Avoid Single Purpose Kitchen Tools

A lot of times the problem isn't the lack of space but the number of items we keep in our kitchens. While many kitchen tools are necessary and are welcome in any kitchen, there are some that you simply can live without. Now, a good rule of thumb would be to get rid of anything that only serves one purpose. Banana chopper? Ditch it. Egg white separator? You don't need it. But how about less obvious examples such as a rice cooker?

While it's true that rice cookers only serve one purpose, newer versions of the tool do so much more. When selecting something as simple as a rice cooker, keep in mind that this humble appliance can serve more than one purpose, as this website will show. Several versions of newer rice cookers come with steamers, warmers, and even slow cooking options. This makes it an efficient kitchen tool, as it serves many purposes. Ensuring that your kitchen tools are efficient will go a long way into clearing up space and unwanted clutter.

Stack Everything

Pots and pans are pretty bulky, thus taking up a significant amount of space in your kitchen. Now, unlike single-purpose tools you can't really get rid of your pots and pans. What you can do is think of more efficient ways to store them.

One easy way to do this would be to stack them on top of each other. Think of it as those cool Russian nesting dolls and make the biggest pot the base for your stack. From there just arrange the pots from biggest to smallest to create a stable stack, keeping anything from falling and consequently damaging your pots.
